The Mitten By: Jan Brett Traditional Literature             Nicki is told that he needs to take good care of his mittens, but he ends up dropping one of his white mittens in the snow. He doesn’t even realize he had dropped it. Animals start to crawl one-by-one into Nicki’s mitten. One mole, one rabbit, a badger, and other animals; even a fox! A brown bear crawls in, because who could say no to a big bear? Finally a tiny mouse crawls on top of the brown bears nose.             All while these animals are crawling into the mitten, Nicki is completely unaware of what’s going on. Just when Nicki approaches the scene looking for his mitten, the mouse causes the brown bear to sneeze. This causes all of the animals and the mitten to go flying. Nicki catches his mitten in thin air. This provides such a funny and climatic ending. As a child, this was by far one of my favorite books. I thought the ending was so funny I couldn’t even believe it. I

Goldilocks and the Three Bears By: Caralyn Buehner and Mark Buehner Traditional Literature             There is a family of three bears living together in a house with bowls, beds, chairs, and other things perfectly fitting their size. One bear was big, one bear was medium sized, and one bear was small. The family of bears go off on a walk, leaving the house unwatched and empty. A little girl, Goldilocks, jump roping along, found this welcoming house. She was curious, so the little girl went skipping through the house rhyming away. She finds porridge, chairs, and beds. Of each, there are three, but only one fits her just right! When the bears come home, they find a crazy surprise! They notice all of there things have been used, and find a little girl sleeping in the wee little bears bed. I absolutely love this story, and I love the twist that they have put on Goldilocks character. She is bright eyed, and is seen skipping and singing inside

Three Little Kittens By: Paul Galdone Traditional Literature             This is a short story about three kittens who at first, lost their mittens. Since they had lost their mittens, mother said that they couldn’t have any pie. Of course, the kittens wanted their pie so they found their mittens. Mother was so happy with the kittens she let them eat their pie, but while eating the pie the kittens got their mittens all dirty. This made mother upset again, to make mother happy, the kittens went and washed their mittens, making mother happy again. At the end of the story all the kittens smell a tasty mouse. Meow! This is just a very simple and fun story for children to read. I would think this book is for children in about 4-7 years of age. It’s from a folk tale, but it also rhymes! This is something students may even be able to memorize. This could definitely be a book to help students learn to read.
