Finding Winnie is a wonderful picture book that tells the full
story of Winnie the Pooh in his childhood. The book begins with a mother
telling her son a bedtime story about a veteran who bought a black bear at a
train station. The man named the bear Winnie, short for Winnepeg (a name that
reminded him of home). This bear became a loved mascot by all the soldiers! The
veteran ended up having to leave poor Winnie the bear at a zoo to go into
combat in France. Christopher Robin visited the London zoo, and Christopher Robin
quickly felt a bond with Winne the bear. Christopher imagines tons of
adventures with Winnie, which are written by Milne in the famous Winne the Pooh.
I absolutely adorned this children’s book. It is engaging,
and familiar to them already through the other books about Winnie the pooh. If
I read this to my classroom, I would make sure to read about Winne the Pooh
first. The illustrations are captivating and keep a centered tone throughout
the book.
