I Like Myself

I Like Myself sends a beautiful message of loving yourself in all ways. The book uses rhyming patterns to entice the readers ears as it describes all the ways the little girl likes herself. It talks about her physical traits such as her eyes and hair and then goes on to talk about her personality and character traits. As the story unfolds we see the little girl puts no consideration into how others might see her and she draws the conclusion that all that really matters is that she needs to be confident in who she is.


I would absolutely use this book in my classroom. The author uses great descriptive words and the illustrations are colorful and fun to look at. This book sends a positive message for children living in today's world. While the world teaches children to compare themselves to others, this book teaches them to be confident in who they were made to be. I would use this book for children 3-8 years old.

He has an unhappy life, and wants to escape it. So he ends up skipping class after getting caught up in the story. Atreyu and his friend Falkor and other amazing characters search for a way to stop the Nothings, but they can’t find anything to stop them. When he does this, he finds himself making foolish and selfish wishes. Freedom Over Me By: Ashley Bryan Historical Fiction             This book is based on property to be sold from the Fairchilds’ estate. It lists hogs, cattle, a handmill, and men, women and children. Only gender, name and price are given to the 11 slaves are noted in the appraisal of the estate. The author lovingly gives humanity to each of these slaves mentioned. She gives them ages, relationships, talents and dreams.             Each slave is given two double page spreads of beautiful artwork and poems to describe them, and to share their dreams of how they one day may impact the world. For example we have Bacus who works in metal work for the Fairchilds’, but his dream is that every time he   hits the metal, it is a blow of anger and outrage. I had never heard of this book before this assignment, but man am I glad I have found it. This is so beautiful. Giving life to the once looked at as lifeless. Wee Rhymes: Baby’s First Poetry Book By: Jane Yolen Illustrated by: Jane Dyer                         This is a collection of poems and nursery rhymes for children. Two women who know how important bedtime poems and nursery rhymes are have put them into a book altogether. There are some old mother goose favorites inside this collection, but most are written by Jane Yolen. All of the poems are about baby topics like belly buttons, kisses, and hugs.             The illustrations in this book are done beautifully by Jane Dyer. They have a wonderful old timey feel to them. There is use of beautiful watercolor and pastels, which are very pleasing to the eye. Also, Jane Dyer does a wonderful job of creating diversity within the pictures.
