Big Moon Tortilla

A little girl named Marta Enos has worked very hard on her homework. She loves her grandmothers “big moon tortillas” and is very hungry for them. But all of a sudden her day starts going terribly wrong as she runs to the cookhouse. Her homework is blown out of the window and ruined by a bunch of dogs. Her glasses break because she drops them while running. She runs to her grandmother, and like always grandmother knows best. Her grandma sings an old song to her about choosing happiness. Marta chooses to laugh at her problems in the end.

This is a great book for teachers to share with their classrooms. It is about a girl who’s struggles are comforted by her grandmother. I think it’s important how this book may relate to children with a certain culture. I like how it talks about a tortilla, and how that can be related to some students in my classroom someday. I think this book would be great for children PreK-3rd grade.
