Thank you, Mr. Falker

Special Needs Topic

Thank you, Mr. Falker is about a little girl named Trisha who struggles to read. She is really great at painting and drawing, but the words on the page don’t make any since to her. She is the only student in her class who can’t read. The book talks about all her struggles inside and outside of school. Mr. Falker sees that she is having a problem, and tries to help her make out the letters and the words. Although never mentioned, Trisha must be struggling with dyslexia.

This book is truly touching to me, as I am able to relate to the topic. My brother has dyslexia and has always struggled in reading. It’s very important to bring up special need topics in the classroom This will make students aware that we are all different, and should all be accepted. This book is best for students in K-5th grade, and I believe it will make students more comfortable in school who have a struggle with not only dyslexia, but also just reading itself.
