Curious George Goes to a Chocolate Factory

            George and the man in the yellow hat visit the chocolate factory while walking down the street. The man in the yellow hat left George alone in the chocolate shop and told him to stay out of trouble. Of course curious George got very curious about some of the chocolate and he learned all about what the swirls mean on each of the chocolates. He got so curious he found the machine that made all of the chocolates! The workers were having trouble and George was able to make sure no chocolates hit the ground, by eating them of course!!


This is a fun little story that I think Pre-k through 1st may use. Its silly and would give them a good laugh while reading it. I would definitely use this book in my classroom to maybe teach a lesson about the word curiosity.

Freedom Over Me By: Ashley Bryan Historical Fiction             This book is based on property to be sold from the Fairchilds’ estate. It lists hogs, cattle, a handmill, and men, women and children. Only gender, name and price are given to the 11 slaves are noted in the appraisal of the estate. The author lovingly gives humanity to each of these slaves mentioned. She gives them ages, relationships, talents and dreams.             Each slave is given two double page spreads of beautiful artwork and poems to describe them, and to share their dreams of how they one day may impact the world. For example we have Bacus who works in metal work for the Fairchilds’, but his dream is that every time he   hits the metal, it is a blow of anger and outrage. I had never heard of this book before this assignment, but man am I glad I have found it. This is so beautiful. Giving life to the once looked at as lifeless. Wee Rhymes: Baby’s First Poetry Book By: Jane Yolen Illustrated by: Jane Dyer                         This is a collection of poems and nursery rhymes for children. Two women who know how important bedtime poems and nursery rhymes are have put them into a book altogether. There are some old mother goose favorites inside this collection, but most are written by Jane Yolen. All of the poems are about baby topics like belly buttons, kisses, and hugs.             The illustrations in this book are done beautifully by Jane Dyer. They have a wonderful old timey feel to them. There is use of beautiful watercolor and pastels, which are very pleasing to the eye. Also, Jane Dyer does a wonderful job of creating diversity within the pictures.
