Encyclopedia, Prehistorica Dinosaurs By: Robert Sabuda & Matthew Reinhart Pop-up Book The Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs book is fabulous. The book is very informative of dinosaurs and the number of pop up illustrations are phenomenal. The book uses 3D images to show the reader what the dinosaurs looked like as well as their habitats and many other cool facts about dinosaurs, fossils, and science. I would love to use this book in a classroom but it is best suitable for older children, probably 3 rd - 5 th graders. This book uses elaborate images to capture the reader and makes you want to learn about dinosaurs.

Last Stop on Market Street By: Matt De La Pena Illustrated by: Christian Robinson Newbery Medal This book is about a grandmother and son’s ride home on the bus from church one Sunday morning. This Sunday CJ, the little boy, has a million questions for his grandmother. And like always, grandmothers know best. He asks questions like, why they don’t have a car like his friend? Or why they get off the bus in the dirty part of town? Each question is answered with a loving, answer from his grandmother, who reminds him of the beauty they are able to see in everything. In the end, the grandmother and son end up at a shelter where they are helping feed the poor. I am officially in love with this book after watching a few interviews on the author and illustrator of this book. I love how the images capture a love that he had with his own grandmother. The Cat in the Hat (Audio) By: Dr. Seuss Audio Book The Cat in the Hat is a classic. The story of two children stuck at home on a wet day with nothing to do. The children are staring out a window and wondering how to pass the time, when suddenly they hear a noise and in comes the Cat in the Hat. The Cat entices the children to do things, and play with things that they know they should not. Their pet fish tries to warn them, but the Cat just won't stop introducing new, terrible ideas. Eventually the house is a disaster, things are broken and ruined and then mom is about to walk in. The Cat quickly utilizes his tools to tidy the house back up and by the time mom walks in, the house is in good order and the children are back sitting in chairs staring out the window as if nothing ever happened. The Legend of the Bluebonnet Retold & Illustrated by: Tomie DePaola Multicultural The Legend of the Bluebonnet is a heart felt story about a little girl being selfless. The story begins by describing a Comanche tribe that is in the middle of a drought. They have had little to no rainfall and their land was dying as well as many people in the land. The story opens with dancers dancing and pleading with the “Great Spirits” to bring rain to the land. For three days the danced but their cries were not answered. Then She-Who-Is-Alone is introduced as she sits with her treasured doll watching the dancers. She is a young girl who has lost her parents and grandparents and all she has left is a doll from them. She loves this doll more than anything and she begins to tell the doll all about how the Shaman will be back soon from talking with the Great Spirits and that they will know what has to be done to have the rain come back and fill the land.
